LEARN A LITTLE ABOUT ELECTRONIC PRESCRIPTIONS
On July 12, 2022, the Minister of Health issued Circular 04/2022/TT-BYT amending Circular 27/2021/TT-BYT on electronic prescription of drugs, in particular, there are regulations on the roadmap for electronic drug prescribing.
An electronic prescription is one that is prepared, updated, displayed, digitally signed, shared, and stored by electronic means that meet the regulations has the same legal validity as paper prescriptions.
Electronic prescription code: 14 characters in length (including numbers and letters) is created automatically according to the following regulatory structure:
- Formatted electronic prescription code: xxxxxyyyyyyy-z.
- The first five (5) x characters are the medical examination and treatment establishment code.
- The next seven (7) y characters are prescription codes, each with a random value of numbers 0-9 or letters a-z, ensuring the uniqueness of the prescription at a medical examination and treatment facility.
- The last z letter has a value that represents the type of prescription.
Electronic prescriptions are always required to have a tail: "-c", "-n", "-h", "-y". (c: standard prescription, n: narcotic prescriptions, h: psychotropic prescriptions, precursor drugs, y: prescription Traditional Medicine).
The dash character (-) between the first 12 characters and the last z character to separate prescription codes and prescription types. If the prescription does not have 1 of the 4 letters above, it is not an electronic prescription.
Code of medical examination and treatment establishments, the practitioner code shall comply with the regulations of the Ministry of Health in Decision No. 130/QD-BYT dated January 18, 2023 of the Minister of Health promulgating the principle issuance of codes of medical examination and treatment establishments and Decision No. 4210/QD-BYT dated September 20, 9, 2017 of the Minister of Health stipulating standards and output data formats for usein managing, assessing and paying medical examination and treatment costs of health insurance.
